After teasing his involvement with Marvel’s forthcoming Black Panther in the official video for his Damn single “Love,” highly respected musician Kendrick Lamar confirmed and expressed his excitement at being involved with Black Panther.
“Marvel Studios’ Black Panther is amazing, from its cast to its director,” Lamar said in a press release Thursday. “The magnitude of this film showcases a great marriage of art and culture. I’m truly honored to contribute my knowledge of producing sound and writing music alongside [director Ryan Coogler] and Marvel’s vision.”
Black Panther: The Album—curated and produced by Lamar and Tiffith—will feature music created specifically for the movie. Coogler himself chose Lamar for the task, marking the first collaboration of its kind in Marvel Cinematic Universe history. “I can’t wait for the world to hear what Kendrick and TDE have in store,” Coogler said Thursday. A release date and tracklist have not yet been announced. Black Panther hits theaters Feb. 16.
