Today, Lucasfilm announced Academy-Award winning director Ron Howard as the new director of the Han Solo film, after Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were abruptly fired mid-production due to the infamous “creative differences” reasons. Lucasfilm boss and Star Wars producer Kathleen Kennedy made the executive decision to transition from Lord and Miller to Howard despite filming just days away from wrapping (excluding reshoots and post-production). While it is still unclear what impact this decision will have on the film, it definitely raises questions about what could have been, and what will happen to the next stand-alone film in the Star Wars universe.
